San Diego girls weekend - ???'s

My (3) girlfriends and I are planning a long weekend for our birthdays (early 30's) to San Diego. The plan is to fly in Thurs. morning, rent a convertible, drive to La Jolla, look around all day, George's Ocean Terrace @ 5:45, then the Comedy Store that night.
We are staying @ the Hyatt downtown, so Friday we are checking out the Gaslamp, then off to Del Mar for the races and Friday night concert.
(Sat and Sun are out of my hands)
Questions:
Do I need a car for La Jolla? Is it worth it for the day (we will be returning it Friday morning when we can use a friends car that lives there) seeing how parking is difficult in La Jolla? Is is too far to cab? Will we be able to get a cab returning later at night? How is the Comedy Store in La Jolla? What is the dress code for the Ocean Terrace? If we are in jeans, tanks, is that underdressed? I checked out their website and thought I spotted sneakers on someone, but I couldn'tt really tell what people were wearing.
Last question, any advice for Gaslamp for breakfast/lunch?
Thanks for your help!!

yep- get a car. Just more convenient and usually cheaper....

Once in La Jolla you probably don't need a car. Comedy Store is about 3/4 - 1 mile from the main area (Prospect St). You can get cabs to/from La Jolla but you may have to call for one (no info on prices). A 24 hour rental car is probably cheaper than round trip cab ride, however, it might be more of a hassle (p/u & return, gas, etc).

The Comedy Store is fun. It really just depends on who the act is.

Ocean Terrace (great) is casual dressy. 3 women in jeans and tank tops will be served no prob :d. Not many places in San Diego require dressy attire.

p.s. Del Mar races are lots of fun.

Should have added that if La Jolla means going to the beach then I would recommend a car as the beach is a few miles from the downtown village.
