I live in San Diego too and actually I think the long white pants will be too formal and hot for this time of year for a family get together. If the groom is going to be as casual as you've described it doesn't sound like the rest of the family will be dressing up. San Diegians are notoriously casual.

Dear NewbE... your reply about Body Shaming projection was really unkind and unnecessary. We all just share our opinions on issues without name calling. There are other Forums which encourage this type of activity, but this one does not.

Kerouac, my use of the term body shaming was me expressing my opinion. If you don't like it, move on. But I will not stand idly by while women police other women's appearance. Or words, for that matter.

I think others here can decide for themselves who's policing whom and judging me for words never said nor meant. It must be exhausting. Thanks for the support, kleroux. I certainly appreciate it.

Let me get this straight: telling a woman to hide her underarms is in some way considered kind, but saying that you should not shame women for their appearance as they age is unkind? OK, lol You people are twisted.
I stand by my remarks. No one should shame women for their appearance by encouraging them to cover up aging body parts. I feel sorry for women who have absorbed the notion that their aging bodies are ugly and should be hidden.

Suze, it is obvious that MmePerdu was telling the woman to cover her underarms because MmePerdu assumes they are old and ugly, which is obviously attempting to make her feel ashamed of them. If there is another explanation for the advice, do fill me in.
Put another way, if MmePerdu wants the woman to cover her underarms because they look too awesome, I withdraw my remarks.

I don't think there's any possible meeting-in-the-middle in this political dispute. We who choose to look our own perceived best will be forever the bad guys, I suppose. Now I wonder why that is? Maybe she doth protest too much.
My personal truth is I'm exceedingly grateful to my body for serving me well all these years and it continues to do so. Gratitude and shame just don't seem to me to go together.

Well first off it wasn't MmePerdu who first said it, it was kleroux, and all she suggested was it was puerhaps not as "flattering".
There was no shame, old, or ugly even mentioned until you got involved.

Kleroux, your post was not "unkind and unnecessary"? I'm with NewbE on this.

OMG...you all just made me go to the mirror and look at my underarms! LOL They don't look one iota different than they did 50 years ago. What the heck??!! Now next time I'm in Body Pump, I'm going to be checking out everyone's underarms. Seriously!
