SAN DIEGO - Chula Vista Olympic Training Center HOW TO GET THERE WITHOUT A CAR

How can we get to this center without a car. We will be coming on a cruise ship and thought my grandson might like to visit an olympic training center. It's 25 miles south and in Chula Vista. Can we take a train and then a cab?

You could take the Trolley on the Blue Line to Chula Vista, then find a cab. The closest station would be Palomar Street, but there probably aren't cabs sitting around there. The Bayfront/E Street station might be better as there is supposed to be a visitor center and it might be easier to find a cab.

I think you'd be best just taking a cab from the Embarcadero.

Here's a link to the Trolley web site, www.sdcommute.

Sorry, I forgot to add that you'd get on the Trolley at the Santa Fe Depot which is walking distance from the Embarcadero.

Thanks Barbara.

You won't be able to get there by public transport without a lot of hassle. I would recommend a rental car or cab (but the cab fare will be very expensive - going and coming).

The guided tours at the Olym. Training Ctr. are at 1:30 -- otherwise you arrive whenever and can take a self-guided tour.
Another route is to take the Trolley to H Street in Chula Vista and catch a local city bus (it takes about an hour from this bus stop to the Training Center - maybe longer). But then the bus drops you off and you'd have to walk the rest of the way which is about two miles.
I think Barbara's suggestion to get a cab is the best and cheapest in the long run.
The Training Ctr. is in a remote area and pretty far from anywhere. But, what a great idea!

If you decide it is too much trouble, you might consider touring the aircraft carrier Midway, it is very near by the cruise ships.
Happy planning!
