San Diego boating

Hi,
Are there certain months that it is just to cold on the water to sail around the San Diego area??? Or is it pretty much a year round event?
Thanks.
Frank

It's definitely a year round activity.

Hi,
Are there any restrictions to sailing in San Diego. I thought I heard that you could only go out on certain days. It was on a radio show and it sounded totally strange to me.

Frank-As a boater I think the only time they would actually restrict boating in certain areas is in case of an emergency, boat race or something like a VIP (President etc.) coming in on a ship and they wanted to keep the shipping lanes clear. If there is a small craft warning due to weather ie winds, storms etc. they tell people not to go out but there are always a few careless idiots who think they are invincible.

Buckeyemom,
(Sounds like your are from Ohio<g>)I'm from the Poland, Ohio area.
We were in San Diego area a few weeks ago and were staying at the Hotel del. Crossing the bridge on a Saturday afternoon, I could see the bay full of boats, however, in Coronado, it seemed like no one was out?? Plus, on a national radio program, a person who lived in DelMar was talking about restricted days, etc. I obviously misunderstood something. I was asking too, because we were thinking of moving there in the future. I love the area. I'd love to get a sail boat and just tool around in it--going nowhere Thanks.

fjs, I do not sail, but I have many friends who do. I have never heard of any permanent restrictions re going out on certain days of the week. Because San Diego is a navy town, and a huge fleet is based here, there are restrictions re where you can sail on San Diego Bay, but otherwise I would refer you to the Coastguard web site:

Hi Frank-Yes, I am from the buckeye state. I live in Columbus to be exact. We do a lot of boating on Lake Erie and in Florida. I agree with Barbara, there was probably restrictions because of the fleet going on. I know on Lake Erie when they fire near Camp Perry boating is restricted.
