San Diego area beach hotels?
Any hotel advice for a family of 3 (daughter age 13) going to San Diego in mid-July? Would love to stay oceanside, but don't want to pay high resort prices. Would also consider a self-catering with a kitchenette. Anybody have any recos? Thanks!!

Donna, we just came back from San Diego with our 2 kids. We stayed right on Pacific Beach at the Ocean Park Inn. Great location, price includes breakfast and gated underground parking (which is hard to come by at the beach)and the rooms all have fridges, microwaves and coffee pots. We got a great rate through the San Diego convention and visitors bureau. Their website is www.sandiego.org. Hope this helps!

Donna:
Another vote for Ocean Park Inn. The hotel direct website is www.oceanparkinn.com however like Karen stated you can sometimes get a reduced rate thru the San Diego visitor and convention bureau. Unsure about mid-July that may be considered 'high season'. We usually go around Thanksgiving and always end up having to pay more because of the holiday. You will love San Diego. Sandy |
Pacific Terrace is a great 'resort' hotel right on the ocean that sometimes runs awesome specials. The hotel offers a free breakfast and afternoon wine/cookies/snacks hour.We also made our reservations through sandiego.org and were most pleased.

you can also do a search for mission beach rentals. they have self contained condo's or half houses for rent right on the beach on you can go on the bay side which is only a short walk to the beach. in july, it would probably have to be a weekly rental.
