ncounty..isn't the outside fireplace just gorgeous..wife saw that and guess what we are having built at the house?

I so hope the poster chooses Estancia...vs Days Inn..don't know how much savings and understand with this economy..rather see them at a La Quinta Inn in Mission Valley if thats the case..heck the Palms at Shelter Island was under $100 with a gorgeous bayfront view.

hahaha, ksucat, are we going to have matching fireplaces?!!! I varied my design a bit but the size and scale are about the same. Theirs is brick and I went with that craggy split rock, I love it! Will yours be outdoors? I am shopping for the grate today; haven't used it yet.

Estancia is definitely "worth the splurge" IMO. And at $164, it's hardly that!

I cannot even imagine trying to compare Estancia to the Days Inn. I too hope and vote for the Estancia.... I am going to stay in SD over Fourth of July.... but want to be downtown for the Parde Game on the 4th

It's rather an odd mixture of hotels on that list!

Estancia may be all that everyone says, but for a tourist staying in San Diego, I just don't think the location is great.

I think as a hotel with gorgeous design and still in LJ with a 4* rating..where by car you can get to LJ Shores in 3 minutes or the freeway in less than 5 minutes is nice..you can take Genessee or LJ Village..
It's new and the problem with a lot of the hotels close to the beach in LJ have a moldy, musty smell..plus, there older.
You can walk to Torrey Pines Golf Course or the TP Reserve..
You do need a car but I believe they have a shuttle for free that will take you into the village.
It has won lots of awards for 'Best of'..
I think $164 is a great deal and I believe that comes with breakfast for two daily!
It is a weird eclectic mix of hotel/motels..

ncouunty..HA! wife wants the craggy split rock too..hee hee

Deb, enjoy the Marriott Gaslamp. It is a great hotel and overlooks the baseball stadium. Plus its in a great accessible location for everything in SD.

ksucat, man, are you the travel agent extraordinaire or what?!!! I'm amazed at how your swift fingers come up with these deals for people. Let me know if you want to touch base or compare notes or need recommendations when you get ready to do your fireplace. My email address is listed here.

Yes, have a great time, DebitNM.... Marriott has great views and a terrific location.

Another thing to think about -- the true, total cost of a room. The quoted rate is for room only, when you add in taxes etc the price goes up quickly. Then resort fees, parking and what started at $150 is well over $200.

OP indicated that price is a concern, so hopefully this will help her find a place that is comfortable and within budget.

Thanks ncounty..you have exquisite taste..just like my wife!
Can you tell that I love luxury travel at beer budget prices...I see that the Days Inn is over $130 a night.

MomDD..try and dine at the Grant Grill while you are there..see if they will throw in free parking and breakfast too..tell them you write for a travel website which you do and you would LOVE to be upgraded to one of their wonderful suites with living, dining room too..

DebNM..so true on the true cost of the room..resort fees, taxes, parking..I find that if you are a rewards member that some things are waived..not always but I give it a try.
Dont'cha hate when you get charged for a resort fee and you checked in late at night?

I see that the SD Tourism Board is promoting 'Happy Deals' so they might want to check that too..

So true! I stayed on points/cash at the Westin downtown and my parking was 30.00 a night - that adds up after a few nights!
