San Diego

We have four nights in San Diego at the end of next week.
1. How safe is it?
2. what should we do?
3. What should we avoid?

Thanks

vincenzo was nicer than I might have been >)

>>1. How safe is it?<<

Depends on what you want to get up to

>>2. what should we do?<<

Maybe start w/ a guidebook and then ask us for some details/opinions

>>3. What should we avoid?<<

see my response to #1

San Diego a a great place -- but you decided to go there for <i>some<i> reason -- give us a hint. What sorts of things do you enjoy? Will you have a car? Where are you staying?

nytraveler Aug 23rd, 2015 09:11 AM

Who/how many are you?

What are your interests?

Suggest not going to Tijuana which can be dicey.

As the others have said, you need to provide more information such as where are you staying if you know and will you have a car. Your question is way too vague.

mrschops, the Zoo is wonderful there and I suggest that you do not miss it. It is adjacent/part of Balboa Park, and we had a wonderful time there as well (lots of different museums). That is very walkable, and there are shuttles as well once your feet wear out. Between those, that would be 2 or 3 days anyway. Link: http://www.balboapark.org/

For another day, spend at Old Town: http://www.oldtownsandiegoguide.com/

Some will suggest Coronado Island, perhaps La Jolla, or other areas. Depends on your interests, of course.

Thanks everyone. Sorry I was so vague, new to the site!

We fly to LA, pick up a car drive straight to SD for 4 nights, then 3 in Palm Springs, then on to Las Vegas to meet up with pals for a 60th Birthday.

We chose SD to extend the LV trip. We did a month last year in an RV from SanFransisco, down the coast then inland, covering many National Parks. We spent time at Lake Powell, LAke Mead, the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion Park, Monument Valley, Yosemite, Death Valley. We went as far as The Four Corners, then back towards LV for just 4 days.

I have bought guide books and have many maps and spent two solid days last week online and with the books and maps, then highlighted possibilities on the maps. We cannot do it all in 4 days, so was asking advice on the best options to do/ not.

We enjoy local history but not necessarily Museums, love the coast, scenery, exploring local events, markets, car events, we have done baseball. I am not sure if my hubby will do Seaworld, would need to persuade him.
I hope that helps?

Ps there are just the two of us both in our late 60s.

Hi Mrschops

Where are you staying? Are you here now? Or is it next week?

nanabee Aug 26th, 2015 04:26 PM

If you enjoy water or beach activities I would recommend La Jolla Cove and or the La Jolla Shores. The ocean temps have been in the mid 70's which is very warm for ocean water here.

Both are underwater preserves and you can swim, snorkle, kayak, look at tidepools, etc.

Old Town (on the trolley Line) is one of my favorite areas. Lots of history.
