Sorry about your freezing pipes...
If it makes your feel any better,
we are 12 full days without power here
in MO after a massive ice storm! Thankfully we bought a generator!!
We found out tonight we do HAVE power
so we turned off the generator, and our
new found power lasted 10 min. Back on the generator!
I will hopefully make it to Borrego Springs when it's warmer!
Thanks for giving us an update. It seems that only true "fodorites" remember to give us a recap after
they get their advice!

TahitiTam - Yes!! We saw about 6 Big Horn Sheep and were mesmerized. It was so quiet, not even jets above us. All we could hear were the wings and cheeping of hummingbirds. It was wonderful!!
In LaJolla, they waived our $10 per day parking fee, savings = $20. That was fine (I'm easygoing).
And beachkomer, you really have my sympathy. We heard all about the devastation in your neck of the woods - it did not make us feel any better (not that we really minded the cold). We live in the mountains of NY and lost power last year for a frigid weekend. Got the last generator in our county from Lowe's and saved our house from lots of damage. I hope you have begun to recover from that mess.

We could have spent a full day at the zoo, but not when we had only one day to get a taste of the city. Anyway, by 1:30 we needed to rest our feet.
And yes, TahitiTam, we got a picture of the sheep that I would be glad to send (or post) if I knew a place to do so. I could certainly email it to you. It is not with a telescopic lens, but you can make out the sheep on the hillside. Like I said, the sound of the hummingbirds and nothing else made it doubly magical.

OK fodorites. I think I managed to open a space at photobucket and posted a handful of pictures. 2 pics of the bighorn Borrego sheep (look closely) and 2 pics of the fountain - daytime and freezing at dawn in the desert. Try this connection:

I hope it works. Someone, please let me know if you can see the pictures.
