San Antonio, weather in January.
Invited to go to San Antonio in Jan. Can someone tell me what the weather is that time of the year.
Thanks Casey. |
No comments about the weather but I do know that once a year they drain the river that is the centerpiece of the Riverwalk. I'm pretty sure they do it in January, so make sure it's not going to be a big mud canal when you're there.

I've lived in Texas all my life, and I'd say that January weather in Texas is iffy. We get "ice storms" that coat the entire city in ice, which basically shuts everything down until the ice melts (1-2 days). And, unfortunately, they tend to occur in January or February.

North Texas gets the occasional ice storm, but those are so rare in South Texas I wouldn't be concerned about that. I live in Austin, which is north of SA, and we don't even get an ice storm every year. It could be cold in January, but you also have a very good chance of warm, sunny weather.
I think missypie's point about draining the river is worth looking into, especially if you plan to spend a lot of time on the Riverwalk. |

Here's info from the Riverwalk web site about the mud festival:

The celebration features: Michelob Ultra Mud Pie Ball, Michelob Ultra Pub Crawl, Michelob Ultra Mud Coronation, Michelob Ultra Mud Parade, and an Arts & Crafts Show. Estimated Attendance: 15,000. the weather can be very iffy indeed. I lived in SA for sixteen years. Humm, there was the 15" snow storm of January 1985 which shut down the entire city for two days, and the January freeze in the early ninties of 11 degrees which destroyed my patio plants which I thought would be OK in my garage. The Normal temps in January are maybe a high of 65 and overnight lows of 40. I have also had roses blooming in December and January as well as outdoor pointsetias. One day in January of about 1990 it went from 85 to 30 within about seven hours.
Bring both warm and cool cloths. But don't bring no Parka! save that for up here in Minnesota. |
