San Antonio, TX Must do?
Headed to San Antonio, TX with the family (teenagers) in late June. What is a MUST do while there?
|
Well, there's a small mission in the downtown area that was either a major battle site for Texas independence or named for a second-level car rental company that later merged with National (so actually a good parallel).
Outside of that, people's interests usually set the parameters for "must do" activities. What are yours? |
We enjoy eating at different/local places. We also like the mom and pop shops, etc. We had planned to do the Alamo and thought the Riverwalk area looked nice. Just wondering if there was anything else locals might know about that we shouldn't miss. Not sure if we want to spend too much time outside - we're Floridians so used to the heat, but not TX heat :-)

There's a whole set of historic missions in and around SA, of which the Alamo is the most famous. They're generally fairly to quite interesting historically and architecturally, depending upon your tastes. An actual SA local (I'm in Texas, not SA) would know the better Riverwalk local restos.
SA's heat should be more akin to Tampa's summers (90s, really humid) than DFW (100+, suck factor high) or the wildcatter wastelands (clean off the sidewalk before frying your eggs) from Abilene to Midland. It's definitely not even within striking distance of Phoenix (did our plane land on the Sun?). |
The Pearl Brewery district is interesting to visit. If you find the heat a bit much, it's fun to drive up to New Braunfels and go tubing on the river. Would be great fun for the teenagers.
