San Antonio Riverwalk Hotels?

We will be in San Antonio for several days in June and plan on staying in a hotel on the Riverwalk or close by. As of now, we are thinking of La Mansion del Rio, Westin Riverwalk or the Fairmont Hotel. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is our first trip to San Antonio. Thank you!

The Westin is the nicest of the 3 IMO. LMDR's interiors are a little too dated and quirky for my taste. The Westin isn't unique, but is a well done example of this chain, with great beds, nice public areas, good location, clean and well run.

Ok, my husband and i go every year, i love this place. Two places come to mind, one: Mariott Riverwalk (not rivercenter) it was really nice and was right there at riverwalk, really nice. two: (we just stayed at a bed and breakfast for the first time and we will never stay at a hotel there again). It is called Beckman Inn and Carriage House (like an apartment) very nice in the King William District, homemade morning breakfast, trolley outside of this lodging and took us to riverwalk which was maybe 5 minutes.....this place is wonderful, i can't say enough about it, the owners are great and they will do whatever to accommodate you....we don't care for hotels anymore after this place. Write if you have any questions and have a super time ([email protected])

I stayed at the Hyatt and enjoyed its location. Rooms were nothing to write home about - just normal.

Oh, the Fairmont is a very good choice.

Any of the three would be fine. La Mansion is a beautiful property with excellent service and wonderful restaurant. Decor is a Mexican colonial theme. Location is great, right on the river and close to the main concentration of restaurants and clubs. Despite this, it is a quiet property.
Westin is also a very nice property, only a little bit further from the cluster of Riverwalk places.
Fairmont is an historic property - it was actually moved to its current location in the late 80's from a site several blocks away where the Rivercenter mall now stands. A very short stroll to the Riverwalk, and has great restaurant. Also closer to the Southtown arts district than the other two properties.
Tough choice - I'd probably go with Fairmont.

Thanks to all of you!!! We decided to stay at the Westin. I found a great rate for a suite with a river view and the "Heavenly Bed" sounded wonderful. It was a difficult decision with so many great choices. My next posting will be about restaurants in the area.
Haydo - nice to see your name again! No Black Crow this weekend - today we had lunch at Sierra Nevada.

I have two restaurant recommendations for you. The first is La Reve, voted best restaurant in Texas by Gourmet Magazine. My husband and I recently enjoyed (a vast understatement) a 4-course dinner with innumerable complimentary mini-sample courses in between for $65 each, excluding wine (available Tuesday through Thursday; on weekends the price is higher). The second is Biga on the Banks, whose chef is in the running for best chef in the Southwest by the prestigious James Beard Foundation. Very innovative and delectable food. Enjoy!
