Is it possible to easily park the car at these locations and walk around

Yes, very easy. There is a large parking garage at the River Center Mall (fee), or cheaper lots a few blocks away from the Alamo near I-37.

Here are the gps coordinates of the lot I usually use, at Bonham St. & E. Houston St.

If you use maps.google.com (& plug in those coordinates) in satellite view you'll see the location, with the Alamo by the trees just to the left, Rivercenter Mall just below, and the Riverwalk (not labeled, but it's sideways Y shape with water & trees.)
