San Antonio New Years Eve
 

Would you recommend going to Jim Cullum's Jazz at The Landing for New Year's Eve? Any other suggestions for two couples, early 60's staying near the Riverwalk? Thanks.

Haven't been there on New Years Eve but I have always enjoyed the music at The Landing so based on past experience I would say yes.

If you don't mind crowds, the city hosts a free New Years Eve bash each year downtown with various stages of live music.

Thanks so much AnneMarie for your help.This is our first visit to San Antonio. How far is downtown from the Riverwalk and are there fireworks also near the Riverwalk? Do you have any restaurant or must see places for us to see? Sorry for all the questions.

The Riverwalk is located downtown so if that's where you're staying you'll be smack dab in the middle of the action, so to speak, and you should be able to see / walk to the New Years Eve events / fireworks.

As to must see attractions, of course there is the Alamo. Will you have a car? If so, I highly recommend a tour of the Mission Trail. If you do not have a car you should be able to at least reach Mission Concepcion via "the trolley" but I believe that is the only mission the trolley frequents.

The Buckhorn Museum and Saloon is an interesting place to visit.

If you enjoy art, the San Antonio Museum of Art, The McNay and the Museo Alameda (the Smithsonians only affiliate museum) are wonderful as is the Botanical Gardens.

Concerning restaurants, myself and others on this board are very fond of Boudro's on the Riverwalk. We also enjoy Biga on the Banks but don't know that others feel the way we do about it, I believe it is worth looking into. Another local favorite is Rosarios located on South Alamo Street. As this is your first trip here you may also enjoy Mi Tierra.

And if you enjoy football, there's the Alamo Bowl scheduled in the Alamodome (downtown) December 29.

I second the motion for Boudro's - it's our favorite spot to eat dinner when we go to the River Walk. We were in SA for New Year's one year when I was single, and a big group of us just ate dinner and then did the boat tour and hung out having drinks on the River Walk; they had live bands playing, and they did a ball drop of some sort at the Tower of the America's. We all really enjoyed it.
