San Antonio-- Hyatt resort or Westin La Cantera
 

I'm interested in staying in one of these in early Sept. But I'd like a discount. I've heard discounts on the radio and got something in the mail. But those seemed close to the $200 per night rate. Know of anything else I might call and ask about? Thanks!

Be aware that there are 2 Hyatt properties adjacent / near each other in SA. The Hill Country Hyatt resort and the Hyatt vacation club or vacation resort. The former is a resort hotel, the latter is a vacation time share property.

If you want wonderful, mature grounds (esp for kids & on property golf, hotel amenities, and a very nice family vacation atmosphere and a hotel room is fine, then look into the Hill Country Hyatt resort.

The vacation club has beautiful, fully equipped suites. If the interior of the room if more important (space, kitchen, suite, etc) than you should look at the vacation club (esp if you care less about restaurant or grounds). I've stayed at both and I much prefer the hotel/resort.

Their website should be the lowest available rates other than opaque bidding. I don't know what Sept availability is like there, but they rarely if ever do Priceline.

For the hotel/resort I simply used the Hyatt website - Look for some special package, otherwise AAA rates usually the best.

For the vacation club I recall I got some 3 night discount package since the property was brand new and quite empty - I think the offer came directly from Hyatt via email. Still paid a lot.

My daughter and I stayed at the Westin La Cantera last Nov., on a club floor. I think we paid a 219.- rate on a Friday night. We really enjoyed our stay there, and they had very good service.

Thanks all. I'm going to check out some tips you suggested. And the USAA discount at the Westin ($169 per night) seems a bit better than the website rate.

If that doesn't work, try the S.A.V.E. (San Antonio Vacation Experience) rate. It's 189 for a Traditional Room and $215 for a Deluxe Room at La Cantera. I assume that you book by calling the hotel and giving the code (but not sure)

I've never booked one of the S.A.V.E. rates, but I get a insert in the Dallas Morning News about 3 times a year on these rates.
