We're considering Le Reve, and we've got reservations at Boudro's (bkluvsNola, I took your post into account, but decided it was an aberration. I hope I'm not wrong). We'll take a ride out to Guenther's, probably for breakfast on Monday (avoid the weekend crowd). The rest (lunch especially), we'll just eat whereever we are! I also hope to find a good local coffee house -- I'm sure San Antonio has its share of Starbucks, but I love finding a local for a little afternoon respite.

Here's a link to Sip Coffee House and Espresso Bar, located E. Houston Street and owned by its sister restaurant Le Reve...

Thanks again AnnMarie - it's on my list!

I'm curious about the segway tour that everyone always mentions - what do you do on that?
|
You know what they are, right? I'm not sure of all the route, but I've seen them near the Alamo, in King William Historic District...both street level and the river there, where there are no crowds, and Hemisfair Park. One almost ran me over on King William...she didn't know how to stop other than doing a tight U-ie...unfortunately I had been waiting to cross the street and was going to walk behind her. On the back end of her U-turn we came face to face, scared the beejeebies out of both of us! LOL I've never seen them anyywhere near the busy area of the Riverwalk and am sure they can't do that--you'd have Segs and tourists all in the river! It does look like fun. Novel for sure.

Hi, OO - yep, I know what they are, but I've just never seen them anywhere in SA and I was trying to figure out how they could maneuver them through the crowds that I've seen at all the tourist spots - it really sounds like fun!

dm, we like Boudros very much and think you will too (and I now think they obviously have a very patient manager.) We actually prefer the Marriott RiverWALK to the RIverCENTER. The Rivercenter is newer and a bit nicer, but the rooms at the Rivercenter are much larger. Much, especially if you get the King bed room.

Hi dmlove,
In the Taste section of today's S.A. Express News there is an article on Rachel Ray's Tasty Travel show in San Antonio last week filming for an upcoming episode (air date is unknown at this time). "After months of researching local restaurants and taking suggestions from the vistor's bureau, the producers compiled a list of 13 locations at which to shoot..." Some of the downtown locations include Sip, Biga on the Banks, Guenther House, and Mi Tierra. OO & Seamus, if you're reading this, the list also includes Liberty Bar! |
Thank you so much!
|
They probably found about it from us, AnnMarie. Undoubtedly they lurk here looking for tips! :)
|
lol, OO, I'm sure you're right! :-)
|
Hey, no holding back! What and where is Liberty Bar (and why should I go there)?
|
lol!
You want to go for the food, uneven floors (aka atmosphere), history, and did I mention the food?? The first Fodor's GTG I attended was at Liberty Bar thanks to Seamus. If you don't have a car you can probably take a taxi, it's not so far from the River Walk area. http://www.liberty-bar.com/index_frameset.html |
