San Antonio Hotel for a girls trip
 
Hello. I am doing some advance planning and site selection work for my next annual girls (well, we are all older than sixty five, but we count our ages by the heart) which will be the second week of April 2014. We will stay Th through Sunday. I suspect we will be happiest in the Riverwalk area, but I am open to other ideas. We like hotels with large rooms, in an area we can easily walk to shops, restaurants, etc, good comfort level and good service standard. Which hotel would you suggest? Thank you.

PS We generally stay at Kimptons, but so far the brand hasn't reached San Antonio (though I hear it may within the next year).

You may want to look at the Westin Riverwalk. I haven't stayed there but have heard good things about it. I have only stayed at one Kimpton, as far as I recall. The Hotel Topaz in DC. The Westin is nothing like that.

If you want to stay the boutique route, I would look into Hotel Contessa. I'm just basing that off the photos; maybe someone who has stayed there will chime in.

Two of our favorites are the Riverwalk Vista and the La Mansion del Rio ( it is an Omni now )

Here's another recommendation for the Contessa. It was originally built to open as an Embassy Suites property (never happened due to financial problems) so the rooms are two room suites. Great location and ambiance, good food and staff. Restaurant serves some great Spanish food. Lovely patio on the Riverwalk, great for an evening drink. Fussy BIL stayed there and was pleased, and that is no small feat.

Westin is fine, but it is a larger property. La Mansion is fine, too, and if at all possible try their Sunday Brunch.

Valencia Riverwalk Hotel may fit your needs. Beautiful hotel, good size rooms, great location.

Our son & D-I-L just got back from a stay at La Mansion del Rio (Omni) and had a wonderful time. Great room with a balcony overlooking the river walk, terrific staff and excellent location. We stayed there a few years ago and had a similar experience.

FYI - EVERYTHING is within walking distance.

We did some strolling around downtown yesterday with a visitor and saw that there is a relatively new Embassy Suites downtown. If that is to your liking (and for me the extra space is nice when sharing) it is well located on E. Houston Street, looks nice and gets great reviews.

We are staying at the Residence Inn in October for a women's conference. Looks like the rooms are good size, free buffet breakfast, close to the Riverwalk
