San Antonio hotel and dining
 

I'm spending a 4 day weekend next month with my daughter in Austin, TX. We're planning an overnighter to San Antonio. Any suggestions for a hotel in the $100.- to $150.- range? I see Comfort Inn - Riverwalk well rated on trip advisor, although am open to other suggestions.
Also looking for dining tips, for reasonable and casual meals in the $5.- to $15.- range a person (no booze). We like Tex-Mex and BBQ, but other suggestions welcome too.

TTT, and I'll take any other suggestions related to San Antonio. We've been to the Alamo.

In July we stayed at the Drury Inn on the riverwalk. It was a very nice property, centrally located, very clean and as a bonus there was a "happy hour" in the lobby every evening.

When in SA please don't miss eating at Mi Tierra in the marketplace. It's wonderful Mexican food and very reasonably priced.

As far as other things to do . . . there's a newly renovated historic theater called the Aztec that is worth seeing. They have a lobby show that was entertaining.

Boudro's is a bit above what you wanted price wise for a meal, but I love it enough to budget for it each time we go to SA.

The La Quinta just across the street from the mall was the best LQ I've ever stayed in.

Thanks for the tips you two. I saw both the Drury Inn and LaQuinta on tripadvisor.com well rated. We'll check into Mi Tierra's and Boudro's.

Oh, if Boudro's is more than you want to spend for a meal, at least go there for a dessert. Although one may think that brownie with ice cream is nothing special, it truly was!!! The two ice creams (cinnamon and toffee) served were superb.

I'd still vote for the full meal. You can always eat Ramen when you go home. ;)

I stayed at the la quinta and was very happy there. Boudro's is good, but may be above your price range.

I looked at Boudro's menu. I think my daughter and I could each get a salad and share an appetizer. We could stay within our budget. :-)

trippinkpj, also try AmeriSuites--someone reported a $99 rate that included breakfast.

Thanks Ann Marie. I recall looking at AmeriSuites when we were going to visit last year.

Read my report of Amerisuites on Trip Advisor (from mid-July of this year). The title is something like "A Cheap Motel Masquerading as a River Walk Hotel." If you can get Amerisuites for something in the $79-$99 range, go for it; you will feel ripped off if you pay more.

Thanks Missy, I will. We stayed at the Hawthorn Suites in 2001. We liked it for a economical choice, although it was a little far off track. I'm still intrigued by the Comfort Inn - Riverwalk that used to be a jail, LOL. It's well rated on trip advisor.
