San Antonio Girls Weekend Advice

I leave this Friday for a long weekend with 3 other girlfriends for a GIRLS GET-AWAY weekend. Two of us lived in San Antonio, but a very long time ago, and the other 2 have not been there before. We're staying at Homewood Suites on the Riverwalk.

What restaurants can you recommend and what night spots? We're not young chicks - in our early 50's.

Some of the restuarants I recall as good possibilities were Budros, Paesanos, the Flour Mill place for brunch (name??), La Margarita in the Square, and one restaurant on the NW side of town - La Fogata. Can someone give some updates on these places and other good suggestions?

PS. Off topic, but anyone else having difficultly getting used to the new Fodors Forum format here? I find it more difficult to easily search and find the answers I am looking for.

Actually, you should find searching easier, since the search function barely worked in the old format, and works very well now.

Anyway, back to your real question, Boudro's is very good, especially the prickly pear margarita. The "Flour Mill" is the Gristmill -- charming, and good.

Do take time to walk around the King William district - historic houses, many recently renovated - and stop in for lunch or tea/pastry at the Mad Hatter Tea House.

It's not the Gristmill (shoot, that's in Gruene). NOw, of course, it's slipped my mind, but someone will come back here with the name.

It's Guenther House.

Can still recommend LaFogata but it's quite a drive from River Walk. Great guacamole made tableside. And you have to stop at Mi Terra for at least a pastry and the spectacle of it all. Great fun and our food was great also.

Sorry, post is late as you're already there. Hope you enjoy beautify SA.

texasjo, I doubt they're already there, since they posted this morning -- probably they mean Friday the 13th.

Well, I didn't pay close enough attention--twice! :)

YES! That name rings a bell, the Guethner House. And now I also remember Mi Tierra, great suggestion. Would Mi Tierra be the 1st choice there over La Margarita?

We don't leave until Friday and very excited. Thanks!
