San Antonio anniversary help
Having a lovely long weekend for our 10th in San Antonio-staying at the Omni on Riverwalk.
Would love your opinion on an ab-fab restaurant for the special dinner and also any favorite Mexican food places-kind of local flavors-good and hot too! TIA |
I would go to La Reve for the anniversary dinner, haven't been myself yet, but it's supposed to be fabulous (and romantic).
For fun, we like the Zinc Bar and Boudros on the Riverwalk is very good. Just walking around is fun! |
I've said it before, it's touristy, but I don't go to SA without a trip to Mi Tierra's in Market Square, just for a big bowl of tortilla soup and a stop at the bakery counter.
|
Yep, I'd have to second La Reve, Boudro's and Mi Tierra.
|
We love Boudro's - they make really good tableside guacamole and prickly pear margaritas. It's sort of upscale Mexican, not really a local "joint" kind of place. Gunther House is a cute spot for lunch or breakfast.
|
I've heard Rosario's is good for Mexican, but we haven't tried it yet. Has anyone else been there?
|
Yes, been to Rosario's, very good, nice lively place, Hi VG!
|
Hi, owlwoman! I'll put it on my must try list. SA has so many good options.
|
Call ahead & make a reservation with Boudro's for the riverboat dinner. Great food, informative & fun! I've done this twice & enjoyed it both times. You can check out the menu & price on boudros.com. Happy Anniversary!

Dining on the river, and especially dining on a riverboat is a great rec. However, save your Mexican food choice for Mi Tierra. Excellent food, but also a real neat place to experience. It is huge and unlike any other Mexican food restaurant anywhere. Try their bakery goods while you wait for a table. Boudro's has more than Mexican food, so doing your anniversary dinner there won't detract from your Mexican selection.

Le Reve is fabulous, and very expensive. It is heads and shoulders over anything else downtown. NYTimes food critic called it the best restaurant in all of Texas. It was pretty darned good, but can't vouch for "best in Texas". :) Dinner will cost about $120 pp with wine, tasting menu. It was worth it for a special occasion.
Rosarios is my favorite downtown for Tex-Mex. Fun, good food. Really, how many Tex-Mex places get RAVE reviews? This one is very good though, and the best for those staying downtown, imho. It won "locals favorite" in the recent San Antonio Magazine's "best of San Antonio" list. Boudros is not Tex Mex. It's OK food for sure...if we are downtown with guests we'll either eat there or at Pesca, under the Watermark. Le Reve is only for very very special occasions...not even write off business meals, as much as we love it! |
Owlwoman has it all--La Reve is THE place, and try to get a reservation immediately. Boudro's is good for a nice meal, as she says, for fun.

My favorite secret restaurant in San Antonio is La Fogata on Vance Jackson. Romantic, tropical, fountains, parrots (are they still there?), hanging baskets of flowers, excellent food and service-my favorite! Not so secret anymore I guess!
|
We went to La Fogata - very good margaritas. If you go, go early, we had to wait a very long time. It was fun to sit outside.
