What are the hihglights that are "must-see" in San Antonio? What do you know about the Drury Inn on the Riverwalk? This is for a group of seniors. Thanx.

Of course, you must see the Riverwalk. A great suggestion, especially for seniors, is to take a River Taxi Tour. These are motorized barges with a guide. They are cheap, and they let you see the whole Riverwalk without having to hoof it!

The Alamo is also a must. It is a block off the Riverwalk and is open during the day, but the most beautiful time to see it is at night when it is illuminated.

If your group likes history and has access to a car, the Mission Trail is just a few miles south of downtown, and it is run by the National Park Service. San Jose mission has the visitor's center, which has an excellent introduction film. Espada Mission also has good exhibits. Bring a picnic lunch and drinks because there are unfortunately few places to eat or drink along the way.

My husband and I stayed at the Drury this past November and I was very impressed with the service and location. It's just a few blocks from everything. We had a problem with our room the first night because of noise from garbage and delivery trucks (beware of low number floors and even #'s - 202, 204, etc.) but were upgraded to a better room the next morning. You can board the River Taxi right around the corner from the hotel. ChristieP gave some great suggestions. Enjoy your trip!

My friend & I got chills listening to one of the staffers re-tell the story of the battle.

FWIWI, the "staff" at the Alamo are members of the Daughters Of The Repoublic of Texas...which means they had a relative who fought in Texas' war for independence! <):)

And if you go to the Missions (which I recommend), be sure to bring your camera - they're very photogenic!

The Drury is well located to see the downtown attractions. You can stroll along the Riverwalk from there. Check out Main Plaza and San Fernando cathedral, too. There is a trolley that runs throughout the downtown area. You can hop on to ride to the El Mercado Mexican Market or the King William historic area. A few companies offer a variety of bus or minivan tours, some including the missions - there will probably be brochures in your hotel lobby, or check with hotel staff.

At scheduled times of the day, costumed docents reenact the main Alamo characters. Why stumbled across one in the morning and were very impressed.

If you are not a native Texan and want to brush up on your Alamo history, consider going to the IMAX movie first. It may inspire you to even better appreciate the real thing.

There are two other entertainment/educational shows that would also be good to serve as a springboard. Sometimes they have good package prices.

And by the way, the Alamo giftshop depends upon its giftshop to continue its educational mission.
