Salt Lake City for a day
We have about 24 hours in Salt Lake City before flying home. We will have been in Butte, Yellowstone and Jackson (Hwy 89 though either Logan or Evanston?). Would love a suggested itinerary for 4 adults. We're not Mormans, but are interested from an architectural & historical perspective. Also interested in getting a brief look at the Great Salt Lake. We'll be arriving on a Monday Evening and leaving the next evening. We will have a rental car, but are also open to trolley tours, etc. Thanks!

Hi Bcala,
If you are not especially interested in architecture & seeing Temple Square, then I would suggest driving home via Evanston and staying Monday night in Park City. (I live there). It's a beautiful mountain ski/resort town with lots to do, cooler temperatures and is only a 35 minute drive to the airport. You could visit the Utah Olympic Park, where the bobsled track and Nordic ski jumps are. In the summer, you can ride a wheeled sled down the track, watch the aerialists go 40 feet in the sky and land in the pool, and ride the new zip lines (not to be missed). Also, the ski museum. Freestyle aerial shows are Saturdays at noon, get advance tickets. Write back if you want more info. |
I'm not trying to encroach on your question, bcala, but I was going to ask Dayle almost the same one.
We're starting with 2 days in Park City before we do Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Will be arriving back in SLC probably around 3 pm on a Friday via 89 and I 15. We'll probably stay near the airport for an early flight Saturday morning. First, will the traffic be horrendous heading south on 15? How difficult would parking be in the city at that time? We'd like to see the capital, which is suppose to be open until 8 pm, and also Temple Square. Would it be better to drop the car off at the rental return and take public transportation in from the airport if that exists? Thanks again for your help. |
You can go to the convention and turist center and they will give you some "historic and architectural" tours to do...There is in particulary a tour which begins at Temple square and allow
a walk from historic houses to other for 2 to 3 hours, walking, very interesting... And so you can effectively drive to Park City for the other half day and end the day there or back to the great lake. Erik. |
Thanks for the replies. You've given me some good ideas to follow up on.
