Salisbury or Millennium Broadway for quick trip in Aug?
 

DD is turning 21. A quick trip to NYC is in order as she's never been (can you think of a better gift? Okay, a Jag would be nice but.....)

Our cost-effective choices so far are -
The Salisbury on 57th - they have a King room for $179 OR The Millennium Broadway (half block from Times Square) has a room for $199 with two single beds.

I considered Hotwire or Priceline, but I'm afraid we'd end up with just a double bed. I love my daughter, but....

Any thoughts?

I stayed at the Salisbury this spring and enjoyed my stay....large room, close to central park, next to subway, OK cont. bkst.
I wouldn't want to stay next to Times Square....reminded me of Las Vegas...

The Salisbury is in a wonderful location. 57th is a great street. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. The hotel itself is clean, but not "new". It is really kind of out of date. But it feels safe and the location beats the heck out of Times Square. Stay there.

I agree that the Salisbury looks like the better choice. I've only ever stayed in midtown - on the east side, so this is a bit new to me, but the Salisbury reminds me more of a traditional New York hotel.

I know there are people that like staying in Times Square and I wondered if we should, considering her age. Some of the views out of the hotel rooms on TA looked pretty cool.
For the record, both hotels have a 4.0 average rating on Trip Advisor.

I think it depends on your tastes and what you plan to do. For shopping, the Salisbury is probably the better location. For theater the Millenium is better. The Millenium is a more impressive looking hotel and as you say, many of the views are pretty terrific. I'm not a fan of the Times Square area but for a quick trip, I think I'd go with the Millenium. If you were staying longer, I think the spaciousness of the Salisbury rooms and being away from TS would be a big benefit.

We stayed in the Salisbury last year on our return to New York from a tour of New England. We had spent our first week at the Belvedere before heading out.
The Salisbury was not impressive, the room was only adequate & the traffic noises through the loose windows was bad - it sounded like a race track at times - presume this is because it is close to a main cross town route. The breakfasts were like a free for all & reminded me of a school hall dining room.
For the same price we could have got the Belvedere but as this was our first visit we wanted to go to a diferent location & also because the Salisbury is recommended by UK travel agents.
Tomorrow we leave for New York - staying at Radio City Apartments for 1 week, Cape Cod 1 week & then back to the Belvedere for 3 nights.

Thanks again, for all of your responses. Since this is her first trip, we'll likely be doing all of the standard first trip sights.

The Salisbury seems closer to subway options. That might be a consideration. I am still debating and will post back with our decision.

The Salisbury is in an excellent location and is so close to Times Square that you are literally in the middle of it after a two minute walk.
