SALISBURY HOTEL in Manhattan?

Has anybody stayed here lately? It's the one across the street from Carnegie Hall on 57th. Great location, noisy street--I know both of those facts. But how 'bout the hotel itself? The most negative thing I hear is "slow elevators," but I think I can live with that.

I've stayed there several times but not lately. My experience was much that same as those listed on tripadvisor.com. I would still be going there but I found something better - retirement. For NYC, I think that you'll find it is an excellent value. I always felt it was somewhat safer than most.

I stayed there in July. It was fine in every way except that it was a bit worn out. But friends stayed there over Thanksgiving and said it had been redone and was quite lovely. Huge rooms if you book the right ones. Excellent staff and great location - smaller hotel.

This hotel is owned by a church I think so rooms don't get updated very often. Rooms sizes are big, most are suites with kitchens, excellent location. Don't expect 4* service but everything's clean.

PS, shop around for best price. You will often find much cheaper prices on quikbook.com, hotels.com, etc. vs. the hotel's own website.

Thanks to all. I did actually book it via hotels.com after checking with the hotel directly and confirming that the hotels.com rate was the better deal.

BUT, this is interesting. I decided to call the hotels.com 800 number and speak with a rep, who booked it for me at a better rate than the hotels.com online rate. I saved about $75 on a 3-day stay. I think he issued me a discount coupon that I wouldn't have had otherwise.

Calling hotel.com is a good tip Logan. I booked this hotel on the website a couple days ago and wonder if calling now would be worth a shot?

Do you mind saying what price you got last week?

We stayed there last summer and found it to be a good value and a convenient location. It's not the Ritz but it was clean and comfortable. We hardly spent much time in our hotel as there was so much to do in NY so it worked well for us.
