Salem public transportation- how early or late??

Booked our flight into Boston and staying in Salem. My question is what public transportation is available for a flight leaving Boston at 6am on a Monday morning?? Would we have to catch a bus leaving at 11pm or are there taxis possibly running at 2am? AND there are five in the group! Thanks so much

I think you need to go to the airport and stay the night before. You can usually get the Hilton or the Hyatt on Priceline by bidding four stars at the airport.

Second would be to book a car service to pick you up at what, 3 AM? The security lines, particularly for American, will be endless on Monday morning.

Third would be renting a car and leaving Salem about 3-3:30.

Fourth would be taking a bus or train/T/taxi to Logan the night before and sitting up all night. Terminal E is certainly open all night, but there is no food or coffee or anything else available from about midnight to 5 AM, and most seating is not designed for sleeping.

I would stay at airport the night prior to flight or book car service.

5 people = 3 rooms on priceline. Much cheaper to taxi or similar car service.

Hotwire will allow 2 rooms, but be sure if you are blind buying that check that hotel has free shuttle to airport. Also, at that hour of departure, some airport shuttles don't operate that early. [I have had it happen at different hotels at different airports more than once, not necessarily BOS airport hotels] Then you would need a taxi [2] to get from airport hotel to terminal.

This may be a time to skip blind buying and just spend the $.

We've decided to spend the day/ night in Boston and get room with airport shuttle Thanks everybody

A wise decision.

But it may be hard to find a hotel with a shuttle that early. Listen to Deb's experience and be SURE.

Hotel airport shuttles are always contingent on the driver being available - or able to be taken off his/her maintenance detail to drive the van. Twice we have had airport shuttles not be available for such reasons. I would guess (and only guess) that a true airport hotel would be more reliable about shuttles.

Good to know about the shuttles! IF we do run into an issue will there be bus routes running that early in the morning?? Right now we are planning to head to airport at 3:30 am from Boston.

Also we are considering getting a one day pass but wondering if we could just do a walking tour....

I doubt it. This looks like it "might" be the bus line and nothing that early.

I really doubt public transit in Boston works at that hour. But taxis do. Just call and arrange a pick up in advance.

MBTA begins at around 5/5:30 AM. I would call the hotel directly and speak with someone in managers office about shuttle availability at that hour. While not a guarantee, at least it is something. My guess - and only a guess - is that the Logan Hilton or Hyatt have reliable shuttles. I would not rely on shuttles in hotels that are in Revere, Chelsea, etc - they call themselves airport but although close, are not at the airport.

Another option - take a cab to Logan Express bus. You can find out info on Massport website, but at some locations (Peabody, Woburn, etc) they start at 3:30 or 4 AM.

looking close at the Hilton - like the idea of walking to airport and the shuttle to other public transportation during the day.
Thanks everyone
