Salem eateries
 

Six adults spending 3 nights in Salem for Halloween festivities. Thanks to previous threads we will have dinner at The Grapevine, The Lyceum, have lunch at Maddies in Marblehead. Looking for one more location and any other information those of you in the know might be willing to pass on. Thank you.

You may have to go with whatever you can get into at Halloween but you might try Finz on the Salem Harbor that used to be the Chase House and Cilantro by the Salem Wax Museum and Charter St. cemetery. We also like Victoria Station for prime rib.

For good seafood, you might try Anthony's in Swampscott. It's right on the water, great views of the ocean from there.

Sounds like you have great choices! How about a drive out to Essex or Ipswich? Something like Stone Soup or Ithaki might be fun/different. Or there are many traditional seafood restaurants. Enjoy!

The Barnicle in Maarblehead, especially for lunch as the view is spectacular, and the seafood, while not trendy, is very good and fresh. late, to avoid waiting. Or wait in the bar, where they make fabulous bloody mary's. Yes, indeed you need to stop in at Maddies, but they are more legendary for their drinks (and their Glory Days) than their food. (Although their clam chowder is the great). The Clam Box, in Ipswich has the best fried clams in the world. It would be a nice drive from salem either via 127 to manchester, then west or route 1a.through Hamilton and Wenham. Most of the restaurants in Salem, except the ones you mentioned, are pretty bad, unfortunately. Actually, Salem itself is overrated in my opinion. The best thing to see there is the Peabody Museum/Essex institute. Marblehead is great, as are Manchester, Gloucester, Ipswich etc. to the North. Have fun!

I forgot to mention Kelly's in Revere for lunch. You can get a GREAT roast beef sandwhich, or lobster roll, onion rings, clams etc. Kelly's has been around for years and the food there is good. You stand at the stand order and then go back to the car to eat. If it's a nice day you can sit and enjoy the ocean views. Oh and careful the gulls will steal your french fries, lol.

There is also a newer Kellys in Saugus on Rt 1.

Kelly's is well known all over the area and I promise it will be the best roast beef sandwhich you have ever had, oh......now I want one too....

We did dinner at Strombergs in Salem. The chicken Milan was an excellent choice and very reasonably priced. Lots of different foods to choose from. ( Even steamers.)

We recently enjoyed the BArnacle in Marblehead. DO get there early as there isn't anywhere to wait except in the bar, and it isn't that big. excellent chicken marsala for anyone not in the mood for seafood.
