Saison, Chez Panisse, Other Top Restaurants in SF Area

I was seriously thinking of going to Chez Panisse but after reading comments on another post I think I should pass. My husband and I love great meals and will go to any length/price/location if it's worthy. We LOVED the French Laundry and have reservations for Saison and Gary Danko. We have been to Gary Danko before (about 5-7 years ago) and loved it and we're hoping it's still as good. Has anyone been to Saison and care to share their thoughts? Any other suggestions for dinner in the Berkeley area? We love all kinds of food (although I'm not big on sushi but I love seafood) as long as it makes for a fantastic dinner. Thanks!

http://www.manresarestaurant.com/menu/ is in the same league as the restaurants you list.

Although Manresa looks interesting I'm looking for something in the Berkeley area of town.

Stu - both your suggests look tempting. It's a hard decision as there are so many wonderful places in SF! Have you been to Saison? It seems no matter which restaurant you'll read good and not so good reviews.

>>Have you been to Saison?<<

Nope

I never pay attention to reviews, except if the reviewer is someone I am familiar with and I know their food preferences.

My wife and I ate at Saison a year ago. If you enjoy a great dining experience as you indicated, Saison is well worth a visit. From the warm and sumptuous interior to the open kitchen with chefs quietly crafting each unique and wonderfully tasting course, to the works of art that the serving bowls and saucers appear to be, it is a very special meal. If you go, say hi to Josh!

Thanks everyone for your input. We'll see what we finally go with and I hope to report back here afterwards.
