Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas
 

How is the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas? Is the property kept clean? How about location on the strip? Any other suggestions for a moderately priced hotel on the strip? Thanks

Maybe I should qualify the previous remarks...I am looking for a budget price for my 2 night stay in Las Vegas. 3 Adults in one room, no plans to be in the room too often, except to sleep. Any suggestions besides the Sahara for a low price on a hotel room on the strip in Vegas?

The Sahara is an older property. Rooms are spacious with basic furnishings. The whole feel of the place is old. It has two very good things, though. One, the breakfast buffet is HUGE, the food's quality is OK, and the price is very cheap.<BR><BR>The other, is that they have 1 dollar blackjack, and it is usually easy to find an empty seat.<BR><BR>The location is not so good. It is maybe 1.5 miles from the Venetian and the center strip.<BR><BR>Factoring in the cost of taxis, maybe you'd be better off at the Treasure Island, Harrah's or Flamingo. The Montecarlo is usually a very good deal in a very good location.

it's not a bad walk once a day but you wouldn't want to be going back & forth. there are buses that run along the strip that would be cheaper then taxi's.

Sahara is on the strip with an easy connection to the center. To take a bus get out of the hotel by the Nascar cafe. To take the trolley (slooooow :) there is another exit. When I was there it was clean. The pool is huge. Concierge desk is very helpful. Expedia often has good deals on it. And the buffet is opened not only for breakfast. For 3 people a taxi to/from the Airport is more economical and shorter wait then shuttles.

You should be able to do better than Sahara unless you're going during a major convention or something.<BR>What dates do you need?<BR>Have you checked for specials at Bally's, Flamingo, Treasure Island?<BR>Heck, even Barbary Coast is preferable to Sahara, if only for its location across from Bellagio.<BR>There are lots of websites for price checking at the various casinos.

You might try the Orleans for an inexpensive place to stay. It`s pretty nice, but is off the strip (about a mile) but there is a free shuttle bus that runs back and forth. If you decide to stay there, ask for a room with a view of the strip.

Sahara can have some great rates and if you can book a $29 room when properties like Treasure Island are charging $89, then go for it. The Sahara is nothing special but the rooms are decent, motel-6 quality. You really don't want to spend any time here though, staff is rude. If you have a rental car then it makes no difference how far away from the strip it is. <BR><BR>The only comparable hotel with such low rates would be the Stratosphere. I would prefer the Sahara over it.

I think you can do better (but i don't know the rates you are looking at), as the Sahara is not in an ideal location for "seeing" Vegas.<BR><BR>I'd consider the Flamingo or even the Tropicana (tower rooms, NOT the garden rooms), both of which offer decent rates.<BR><BR>A little more budget oriented after that is Barbary Coast (NO pool!! in case that is important to you) and Casino Royale.<BR><BR>If you post your dates and rate for the Sahara, i'll try to look around for better.

Check the Luxor(pyramid), they usually are around $79.

The Sahara is waaaaaaay down at the other end of the strip on the corner of Sahara Blvd.. If you want to be in the more happening spots, you're at the wrong end of the strip. (go closer to Flamingo Blvd.) With this said though, the Sahara is fine....old but decently maintained. Good Italian restaurant within. By the standards of 2002 compared to Paris, Venetian, Belagio etc. I'd have to rate it about a 2 star hotel. If you're on a budget, it will work fine. It's right across from Circus Circus, Yuck, one of my LEAST favorite spots, and next door to the Riviera. Nice employees and dealers and at one time was a very "in" place....guess it's seen it's hey-days. Best feature: last time I was there it still had single deck blackjack...a rarity! I'd try the Barbary Coast for an excellent location that might be economical(?) Only drawback is there is no swimming pool, but it is a GREAT corner location! Another older, but well maintained property. I personally like it there because it is smaller, kity corner from Belagio and Bally's, across the street from Caesar's Palce. Really a great location to walk everywhere. Check their website for a spacious room if you can live without a pool. Lil

I am pleasantly surprised that I came across this thread. I am going to stay at the Sahara next weekend. This is my third trip to vegas. I have never stayed at the Sahara but I played the dollar blackjack table on my past trips mainly because I ran out of money and it was a only a dollar per hand. That is the reason that I am staying there because I do enjoy to gamble and the Sahara is my favorite place to do so. I am a little surprised by the negative reviews that you guys have given it. I am curious about the buffet. I heard that the breakfast buffet is decent. What about the lunch buffet? My first trip was at the Golden Nugget and the stay was brillant except for the location. The buffet was the best I have had in Vegas and the room was one of the best in any city I have stayed in. My second trip was at Circus Circus and I won't stay there again. The buffet was terrible but we had free comps so it was ok for free. The rooms were ok but the view of the strip was great. Way too many kids were running around but I should of known better and I should of researched better before going. This trip I plan to relax at the hotel and will not be going on many trips on the strip except to see Mystere at Treasure Island. Could any fellow foderites tell me which tower at the Saharais best for a view of the strip? I would also like to know if the rat pack show is any good and whether it is better to book in advance or to get tickets when I get there? Thanks in advance.

We have reservations at the Sahara for $44 a night for 3 adults in one room. Our dates are the nights of June 9th and June 10th. That could possibly change to the end of the week. I did some checking and the Sahara was the cheapest hotel on the strip I could find.

I stayed at Sahara, but did not get a chance to have lunch/dinner there, all I know is they have coupons downstairs by the reservations desks, and $1 off is valid for lunch/dinner as well. Try and let us all know :) One dinner I had at Riviera and did not like it. Also "Splash" is an OK only show, don't waste your time/money on it.

We stayed at the Hilton for $44 a night on a weekend. <BR>During our stay in Vegas we decided to go to the Sahara to have lunch at their buffet but when we parked at their garage there was a sign saying "Park at your own risk"(There were security guards at the Hilton, Paris, Treasure Island, etc, etc.), the elevators were smelling like urine and inside the hotel it was old and dirty.<BR>I just wouldn't recommend it to anybody.
