Safety at night with a 15 year old
Hi,
Me and my daughter are planning our trip to New York next year. As we're staying for 2 weeks we've decided to stay out of the hustle and bustle of midtown and opted to stay on the Upper West Side - probably the Milburn on 76th St. My biggest concern is that the nearest subways are at 72nd and 79th St and as we plan to be out quite late most evenings seeing shows, shopping and eating out etc. Until what time do you think it will be safe to ride the subway back or even walk? I'm loathed to be spending my money on cabs every night but safety is the biggest issue. |
Perfectly safe.
Unless you're planning to wander around 'til 4 or 5am...there's nothing to worry about. |
Broadway is quite safe in the area of the Milburn, which would be a good choice. It is a short walk from either subway station. From midtown you can take the 104 bus and get off at the Broadway and 76th St. stop.

Broadway is a very busy, well-lit street with a great deal of activity. It is as safe as any street in NYC. However, if, after you examine it for yourself, you feel it is unsafe--please spare yourself worry and spring for cab fare.
