Safe travel in Phoenix
 

As a single female are there any pointers that you seasoned travels can give a girl for safe travel in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. <BR><BR>Thanks<BR>

I'm a single female and drive all over Phoenix every day for work. Like every city there are certain places you probably would not want to drive - at least at night. However, most tourists don't go to those areas as there is nothing there that they are looking for. If you stay in Scottsdale or Tempe you are more than fine. I can't thin of any tourist attractions that are in unsafe areas.<BR><BR>I wouldn't worry about driving here at all. Just use common sense and you will be more than fine. <BR><BR>If you have any specific questions about areas, just let me know and I'll respond accordingly.<BR><BR>

Be extremely careful. Scottsdale is on of America's most dangerous communities. NOT!<BR><BR>I'd say about the most dangerous thing you're going to encounter in Scottsdale is a sunburn. Old Scottsdale is a busy place that's fine for walking around at night.<BR><BR>Can't say much about Phoenix. My observation of the city is that you could die from boredom there.<BR><BR>

I live in the area and always feel safe at night going out to Scottsdale. The bars/restarants all close at 1:00 AM (it's the law) so it's not like you're going to be anywhere after that time, except Denny's or your hotel. Before 1:00, anywhere you'd care to go will have many other people there too. So, as far as cities go, Scottsdale is a pretty safe one. Now, when it comes to Phoenix, you have even less to worry about because there's not much to do there in the way of nightlife. I assume your concern is mainly about night time. Don't worry about being ANYWHERE around here in the daytime, absolutely nothing to worry about.

From Squaw Peak Resort, would it be easy to get to the Bank One Ballpark

Before my first visit to Phoenix I was warned that the area was one of the least safe to drive in and had one of the highest rates of intersection collisions in the country. After my visit it seemed to me that that could very well be true. Am I wrong?

Driving is hazardous here, especially if you don't know where you're going and are looking for street signs or landmarks. Many of the streets are long and straight. Speed limits on city streets are often 45 mph but most of the traffic goes 55mph and there are always people going 60+ and darting in and out of lanes. People routinely run red lights and follow too closely and there have been several fatalities and near-fatalities recently. My strategy is to going with the flow of the traffic (even if it means speeding slightly), keep a safe distance and let other people juggle themselves in and out of lanes as much as they want. I've also given up using my cell phone while driving after a few close calls - not my fault, but I almost wasn't paying enough attention to the road to avoid other erratic/aggressive drivers. The key is to be alert and assume anything can happen at any time.<BR><BR>Also, re safety--there have been assaults and carjackings, and not always in dark, secluded, or seedy areas. It's nothing to worry about--like the other posters said, Scottsdale is very safe--but use common sense when approaching your car in a parking lot and if anyone seems to be lurking, go back into the store and make a report and/or ask for an escort.<BR>

From Squaw Peak, take 24th St. south to any main east-west road (Camelback, Bethany Home, Indian School, etc.), turn west to 7th St., turn south and head to Bank One Ballpark. Avoid freeways because you don't know the territory, and you might get swept into a whirlpool of traffic, taking you far out of your way. Ask the front desk at the resort to mark your city map. It's about 15 - 25 minutes away, depending on traffic.
