safe travel idea within US to travel alone with preteen daughter and Mom

I am a mom of 1 year old daughter with Asian background, I am planning vacation during X-mas and new year break and looking for safe location where we can have fun together. Orlando is something we had been visited so do not want to go there. Any other idea?

What are your interests? What part of the country do you want to see? What type of environment do you want - city, smaller town, rural, beach, mountains, desert...? Most places in the US that are interesting for visitors will be safe, so the desire for safety doesn't really narrow it down much.

Tell people where you live, vaguely, and tell them how much time you have to go round-trip from that place, to somewhere... and people here will be much more helpful.

Adding to all the other questions, when you say "have fun", what do you have in mind? Shopping, hiking, museums...it's a big country! Is weather a consideration?

If budget is a consideration, need to know. What do you like to do together.
Chicago certainly has all you could want as does NYC but they are big cities.
A place like Santa Fe would be beautiful at the holidays and have interesting things to do.
You mention Orlando so what about St. Augustine? And visit Cape Canaveral.
I am wondering why you mention ethnicity?

I guess if Asian is important, Vancouver and Seattle would be interesting--as would San Francisco.

When you say have fun, do you mean parks like Disney or Bush Gardens? They generally have very good security and If you will be participating with her, then you certainly should be safe.

If you mean exploring a city, then you both might be more comfortable joining a tour group or sticking to places with security like museums.

If fun for her is exploring nature then any of the National parks would work.

Where do you live? If you live in the East (such as Asia or Pacific Islands or Australia) then I would recommend our West Coast - if you are coming from Europe or the Middle East I would recommend the East Coast.

As far as the West coast ...
What do you and your daughter like to do?

Mountains: hiking, kayaking, river rafting, such as in Colorado, and the Pacific Northwest?

City life: art galleries, museums, science centers, amusement parks.

Beaches: surfing, body surfing, snorkeling, sailing, swimming, beach walks, such as in San Diego?

Deserts and natural landscapes: Grand Canyon, Southern Utah, Northern Arizona, southern Colorado?
