Safe but cheap hotels in Flagstaff, AZ?
 

I have to go to Flagstaff, AZ later this week for a funeral. Need recommendation for a cheap one night stay in Flagstaff. Thanks.

I stayed at the Monte Vista Hotel about 18 months ago and would recommend it as being both safe and inexpensive. It is situated downtown and is,I believe, on the Register of Historic Buildings. Hope this is of some help.

I'm a camper so no first-hand experience with motels. However, my daughter & family stayed in a 'really good deal' motel only to find that the train tracks ran just across the street - all night long. Check with motel you choose about train track location. <BR>

The main line of the Santa Fe bisects Flagstaff, east to west. The Monte Vista, as noted above, would seem to fit your needs. There is a hostel nearby; it may be in the hotel's basement (my memory plays tricks). For a unique experience, there is a big motel at Cameron, north on Hwy. 89, at the Indian trading post. It overlooks the Little Colorado River.

There are so many motels on the main street in Flagstaff from Super 8 to Embassy Suites, that you really don't even need to make a reservation. Most have their prices posted on their sign. My suggestion would be get there a little early, drive down the main street and pick one. I don't think safety is an issue at any of the hotels. The ones closest to the highway tend to be frequented by truck drivers.

About $45 per night and right in the center of town, walking distance to restaurants.
