Safe Beach Vacation for Solo Woman

I am looking for help on determining a vacation destination. I will be traveling solo and am in desperate need of a warm weather beach, swim at the pool, easy to dine out or in vacation. I do not speak any other languages, so English would definitely be a necessity. I am located in the center of the US so any coast will work!! Any suggestions are very much appreciated!

I can't think of a beach location where I would feel unsafe as a solo woman.

Neither can I. Also, don't feel intimidated about leaving the country-beach resorts in the Carribean, Mexico and places like Costa RIca cater to Americans-everyone will speak english.
What time of year are you traveling?

Puerto Vallarta is safe and easy (while it is Mexico, most people in the tourist support industries speak some English).

The place that comes to mind as being the most solo friendly, IMHO is near Sarasota FL. Lido Key near St. Armaud's Circle. You have the beach, pools, entertainment, parks, shops all very close. Love that area.

How about Cancun or Playa del Carmen, Mexico? The Dallas Morning News had an excellent article this weekend in the Travel section saying that Cancun is almost totally recovered from Hurricane Wlima, and many places there are better than before! They are also eager for the tourists to return...

Thank you for all of the feedback. I am in fact, intimidated by going to Mexico alone. I have been to Playa Del Carmen in the past but it was always with a group of people.

How about Hawaii then? Honolulu and Waikiki are nice and I can't imagine would be intimidating.

Hi Bella, going along with JJ5's thoughts, LongBoatKey, just across from Sarasota would be a lovely place to stay and you would feel completely comfortable there. Beautiful area and so relaxing.

I have traveled solo to Sarasota area many times. Anna Maria has lovely amall hotels, great restaurants and wonderful beaches. I have always felt comfortable there. Ditto Long Boat Key, Lido, Siesta Key.

I've travelled to the British Virgin Islands alone for a while now, and have never felt uncomfortable. It's a wonderful destination you might want to consider.
Actually, I've travelled a lot in the US and never feel uncomfortable - perhaps even when I should.
That said, I am planning on Mexico next year solo, and have a bit of trepidation...but I'm going anyway.

If you want a US destination, you might try along the NC/SC coasts or Sanibel/Captiva Island. Lovely beaches and friendly folks.

I think you would enjoy Naples as a solo destination. Look into LaPlaya resort or the Ritz beach resort. (I prefer LaPlaya because smaller and more intimate than the Ritz. It has a really nice pool area with 3 pools, and a great restaurant right on the beach.) You'll still want to rent a car ... downtown Naples is a 10-15 minute drive from these resorts. It has a great, compact downtown area with an old-world feel and many great restaurants and shops in this area. You would feel very comfortable and be very safe walking around. It also has a nice long pier area that's great to stroll on.

Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key, Lido Beach are really a great area for families and for solo women. Shopping is wonderful at St Armands as well as dining in the Sarasota area. The theater, arts, etc., are all readily available in the area.

You could look into a condo or check out a resort lik The Colony.

Enjoy!!

Bella - I'm just a couple hours north of you in Nebraksa. I traveled to St. John USVI solo for 11 days. LOVED it. Don't know what your budget is, but if you can swing it, do it. Hawaii is gorgeous, too, of course. I've never been to Florida. Good luck!
