Sacramento Suburbs? Which is safe and nice?

I'm looking for a suburb of Sacramento, not too far from the city, that is safe, has good schools, etc. Can anyone recommend one? I hear Davis is nice.
Thanks!

Davis is a university town, very bicycle/green-friendly, not that close to Sacramento, but not too too far either.

Davis is about 15 miles from downtown Sacramento.

I have a good friend who lives in Granite Bay, and I've visited her several times. In addition to GB, there several very nice towns on or near Folsom Lake (NE of Sacto). Folsom, Loomis, Eldorado Hills.

Davis is great - but VERY expensive housing. Even after the 'meltdown'.

W/ a very few dramatic exceptions, almost <u>every</u> suburb of Sacramento is safe and has good schools. But not all make sense -- where will you be working? Distance from the city isn't all that important - commute patterns are really important.

We need more info before we can give useful suggestions. If you work in Elk Grove or Rancho Cordova you wouldn't want to live in Roseville/Rocklin or in North Natomas and vice versa. If you work in central Sacramento, being near one of the light rail lines may be important.

Janis is correct. Where you work and commute patterns are important. El Dorado Hills is great, but the commute to Sacto is tedious. A friend lived in Cameron Park for years but the commute got so long, he finally moved closer to work in Sac.

Good luck,

"<i> Where you work and commute patterns are importan</i>"

And also - your budget. Granite Bay, Davis, El Dorado Hills are generally very upscale. Other places will have nice but more affordable property.
