Sacramento and south lake Tahoe in late August

We are heading to South Lake Tahoe for a wedding in August with two kids ages 4 and 3 months. We fly in to Sacramento on a Wednesday night and don't leave until Monday morning, We would like to explore the area a bit -but need child friendly activities. We are also foodies and would love ago go to a nice restaurant as well. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Wed - fly into Sacramento
Thurs - free
Friday - head to Tahoe
Sat - Tahoe
Sunday - return to Sacramento by the evening
Monday -am flight out

Thanks !

I would head up to the north shore of Lake Tahoe, maybe stay at or around Incline Village. Incline has a really nice beach. Also around the east side , about 5 miles from Incline is Sand Harbor with its beautiful sand. We have gone to this beach every year with our daughter since she was a baby. She is now 19. Spend a few days before heading over to south shore for the wedding.

The Old Sacramento State Historic Park along the River and the State Railroad Museum should be kid friendly activies for your free day in Sacramento. There's also the State Military Museum, the Wells Fargo Museum and thge Aerospace Museum of CA in or very near Sacramento.

Try a horse drawn carriage ride they operate in front of embassy suites in South Lake Tahoe. Lots of great restaurants in the area.

Personally, I don't think of Lake Tahoe as a foodie destination at all. There are some decent restaurants, however.

Toddlers and babies in Sac in late August when it can be over 100 degerees just doesn't sound like fun. I would head to Tahoe stay there until you must return to Sacto to fly out.

If you must stick around Sacramento you might want to take the 4 year old to Fairytale Town.

We went to the Zoo at the end of April and I was not impressed so I won't suggest that. The zoo is across the street from Fairytale Town.

Yes, Fairytale Town and Funderland. But much rather be on the beach at Sand Harbor at Tahoe.

In August, I would definitely try to get out of Sac ASAP and get to higher elevations. I would probably just go straight to Lake Tahoe or at least head up to the Sierra Foothills. Places in the Gold Country like Grass Valley and Nevada city are neat - they will still be pretty warm in August, but not as hot as Sac.
