Sacramento 1 evening?
Hola again! We arrive in Sacramento at 8PM 12/26, Any drive-by/thru attractions to see until around 10PM? Or anything else?
Thanky! |
What we did when we stayed at the sharaton down town, it was new then in 2001, was go to the 3-d theatre. I forgot what they are called. There is also a very nice restaurant around that area, very busy.
|
The IMAX that the previous poster mentioned is very near the Sheraton. Right now they are showing Polar Express in 3 D.
The state Christmas Tree is up on the grounds of the capitol. There is an outdoor ice rink at the K Street Mall near Hard Rock Café. The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament has been completely restored and just reopened. It is also along the K Street Mall. I know the last two would require you getting out of your car but 2 hours is enough to park and walk around, no? |
Yep, a walk is in order after the drive, thanks a bunch the both of you!
Keep 'em coming! |
Hi GPaul,
What about doing Old Sacramento? Fun restaurants, bars and shops. |
I don't think the Cathedral or Old Town will be open in the evening. You could just walk around the capitol grounds or farther east, in midtown there were some nice decorations on private homes around 20th, 24th Street, and F, G, H, J Streets.
If you want to eat, there are restaurants all along J between 20th and 30th, but they all close at 9, except the Tapas place. |
Sequoia what are you talking about? Old town has restaurants, bars, shops, entertainment venues, etc. It stays open plenty late.
As far as restaurants on J street closing at 9:00 when werr you out last? Harlows certainly does not close at 9 nor does Centro, nor does PF Changs or many of the other restaurants. |
I was reading along and agreeing w/ everything (Suzie has recommended most everything I would have) when I got to Sequoia370's post?!?.
Sequoia -- What ARE you talking about? Have you ever been in Sacramento after 8 p.m.? Now, the Cathedral might be locked up - but Old Sacramento being closed, and restaurants closing up a 9:00 - no way. Gpaul: Besides the ideas from Suzie - the whole area w/i 2 blocks of the community center is developing into a dining/club district. And there is always Rick's Dessert Diner if you need a sugar fix. |
Thanks Suzie--I was wondering if I'd lost my mind.
Gpaul, go to Old Sacto. Have fun! |
OK, I don't know about Old Town, but I lived at 18th and F for two years, and I know that all the restaurants on J Street (except the Tapas place) closed at 9PM on weekdays. Believe me, I didn't like it. Maybe it's changed in the past couple of years, but when I lived there, almost everything was closed at 9PM. OK, I see Centro is open till 10. Still, Midtown was pretty dead on weekday evenings.

Thanky all! Would the drive to Reno, on a clear night, take longer than 1 1/2 hours? We may just make Sacramento a rest-stop, and move on to final destination.
|
You'll have no way of knowing if it will be a clear night until you get here (or at least a couple of days before). Will you have tire chains?
It will definitely take more than 1.5 hours since it is about 125 miles and that is one of the heaviest patrol days for the CHP so speedimg isn't really in the cards. If it is snowing all bets are off - could take 2.5 hours, could take 5 hours. |
janisj, you're too kind, and tough!
We'll definitely have chains from all I've read, and wait 'till that night to decide on trip procedure. |
