S. Texas Scenery after Cruise
 

Arrive in Galveston Sunday 22 April 2012 upon completion of a Royal Caribbean Cruise. Will transfer to Houston and rent a car at Hobby.

Any suggestions as to what we could realistically see in a week in South Texas. We like beautiful scenery, the shoreline and genuine Texas hospitality !

We are active seniors who travel a great deal but never to this part of the Great State.

Head west toward Austin / San Antonio. The Texas Hill Country is about as scenic as it gets. The bluebonnets (our state flower) should be blooming along the highways.

Schulenburg has the Painted Churches. I would contact the Chamber of Commerce to see which ones are open. There is a nice review on TripAdvisor. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractio...urg_Texas.html

Brenham has the Little Creamery in Brenham where they make Blue Bell Ice Cream.

Fredricksburg, Gruene are both stops worthy of making. If you're interested in a small hike, you can climb to the top of Enchanted Rock.

Thanks to all for ideas. After cruise will return to Hobby, rent a car drive to Kemah overnight do the Space Ctr next day drive to Galveston for 3 nites at the Galvez. Will return to Hobby by visiting the San Jacinto Battlefield then ovenite for flight next day to DFW.

You really should check the conditions of the bluebonnets when you are going to be in Texas in April. If they are in bloom you should definitely drive to the Hill Country and see them.
