S.F. to Sacramento

Anything to see or do driving from S.F. to Sacramento the beginning of December....

Anna Oct 10th, 1999 06:33 PM

We have friends in Sacramento, when we visited them, we drove from Sacramento to San Francisco and stopped at Napa and toured some of the wineries. We also stopped at Muir Woods on another trip to see the Giant Redwoods.

The answer to your question is NO.

The places that Anna has mentioned are indeed very nice and worthwhile seeing. The trouble is that they are NOT on the way from San Francisco to Sacramento. It would be a very long round about route to include them and you would need at least 2 days. The weather in December may not be very agreeable to sightseeing.

The Muir Woods and Napa Valley are definitely "must sees" while in the San Francisco area. However both of these places are daytrips in themselves with at least a whole day for each one.

The drive from San Francisco to Sacramento is basically pretty boring. It will take you a little over an hour, depending on where in San Francsico you are starting, and where in Sacramento you are going.

Actually, there are 2 factory tours that you can take in Fairfield, about halfway to Sac.
One is the Jelly Belly factory tour, the other is the Budweiser tour. I took them both, but it was long, long ago. I was a child, so naturally I preferred the Jelly Belly tour, but the Budweiser tour made me feel like I was in Laverne & Shirley. On the subject of factory tours, Diamond Walnut company also has factory tours. They are located IN Sacramento.

The Jelly Belly tour is pretty cool, and I went as a grownup. You can also get "belly flops" there, which are mixed bags of jelly beans that didn't pass quality control because they were stuck together. Yum! There are also a couple of wineries across the freeway from the brewery, and a little farther down along 80 there are outlet stores if that kind of thing interests you.

Actually, once you get into Sac, you can hit the Antiques Mall on Folsom Blvd., and a ways down from there, there's Factory Outlets and Restaurants to visit. Just follow the signs on Folsom Blvd. between Sunrise and Hazel in Sacramento off Hwy. 50.

Thank you...the Diamond Walnut and Jelly Belly tour along with the wineries will be fun if the weather is rotten..The outlet shops maybe on our agenda. I will take all your recommendations with us..
