Anyway - we've gotten a BIT off topic, but I think that the bottom line is that you've got a very ambitious trip at a time of year when inclement weather is a real possibility. So consider what you'd like to do.

Any chance you can change the trip to later in the season, when snow would be less likely an issue along the route?

We booked private campgrounds outside of the NP and have
the idea to have a private bus tour to take us to SNP
to avoid driving in the mountains during that season.
We can't move the trip as our kids school break is during that time!
I watched the documentary about claimers in Yosemite and cant' wait to feel that 60's vibe that looks still present in the park and the area.
