RV Rental for western tour
 

Anyone ever rented an RV for a solo traveler for a 2-3 week tour of the western US national parks? If so, what company did you use?

You really need to determine where you will rent. Not all agencies have rentals at all locations. We found this out when we rented an rv for two weeks out of Boston to visit VT and NH.

We loved renting a tiny motor home. You have so much more freedom to stop whenever and wherever you want. The smaller the better for parking purposes and for camping. Many of the National Parks don't allow the giant rvs.

Although we have not rented an RV, we've seen lots of folks out in the western national parks with these smaller rv's through a company called JUCY. They look compact and easy to drive - more like a modified van. For someone solo or a couple, they seem perfect.

Here in Oregon I see at least twice as many CruiseAmerica rentals as any other brand. http://www.cruiseamerica.com/
It would likely be cheaper to use yurts and cheap motels instead.

I guess it depends if he wishes to stay IN the National Parks or outside them. You save by cooking your own meals but gas is higher. Lodging inside the park is more expensive but camping is usually cheaper. Different things to consider.

Yes, I get that--we camped out of our regular van through the west--with a family.
Gas price also.
And reservations necessary in high season.
Our niece and family (big) rented in Denver and did a great loop.

Something the OP might consider if he ever returns is a car rental, and a trip to WalMart for a popup tent, sleeping bag and a gas grill. They have individual gas butane burners for %19 that are like a "hot plate" (I have one and love it as a backup for any time). Or get a tabletop gas grill, etc.
It could all be a LOT cheaper than an RV and its associated costs and parking convenience, for example.
