RV Parks in and around Monterey
My husband and I are thinking of meeting up with my parents in Monterey in December for a pre-Christmas celebration. My parents are spending Thanksgiving in Southern California and are going to Oregon for Christmas and New Years, traveling with their camping trailer - so we want to hook up with them as they make their way north. Monterey seems like a good spot.
I am looking for recommendations for campgrounds in and around Monterey where they can stay. DH and I will stay in a hotel/motel/B&B - no December camping for us. We just got back from a wet camping trip up in Fort Bragg and I am not going to do that again any time soon (trip report is posted if anybody is interested). I don't know exactly what size their trailer is, but they tow it with a mid-sized SUV. Hookups are prefered, but not necesary. Thanks for any recommendations. |
If they don't find a suitable RV park or the weather is bad, they could stay at the HI hostel. http://www.hihostels.com/dba/hostels...-060088.en.htm
My DW and I spent a night there last year. They did have 2 private rooms in addition to the dorm rooms. I enjoyed the use of their kitchen to prepare meals. I also liked their common room with tables, comfortable seating and library. Are you sure that they want to drive the coastal route instead of I-5 to Oregon? Are you or they members of AAA? Their guidebooks are good. |
try your question on www.RV.net, they have forums for such info.

Veterans Memorial should be choice #1.
http://www.monterey.org/en-us/depart...orialpark.aspx Only a mile from downtown. They only have a few RV sites so get there early. First come first served. I stay here when I scuba in Monterey and I actually am staying here next Saturday night. North of there in Seaside, Laguna Seco has RV hookups. http://www.co.monterey.ca.us/parks/lagunaseca.html Those are the two public ones I know of. Highly recommend Veterans. It's a nice park, close to everything, and cheap! |
Thanks for the recommendations guys. They just got their trailer last summer, so are still fairly new to this - finding the available resources and all of that.
I think they will probably take Hwy 101 north from southern CA, then switch over to I-5 after leaving Monterey to avoid the Bay Area. I don't think they will go through Big Sur this time around. |
Marina Dunes RV park is nice. That's where my parents like to stay in their RV. I believe the website is www.marinadunesrv.com
