RV FROM FAIRBANKS TO ARCTIC CIRCLE
Can anyone give me info on traveling from Fairbanks to the Arctic Circle in an RV (22' or 25')? How are the roads? Any services? Is it worth the time?
Thanks! |

I agree you really should try over on RV.Net forums. There's a lot of RV'er that will be able to get you the information you need.

No roads, I think, from Fairbanks north. You can cross the Arctic Circle in Yukon Territory on the Dempster Highway in Canada. That road goes to Inuvik, almost to the Arctic Ocean (it appears that way on a map, anyway). Cicle City, Alaska is about 50 miles south of the circle: http://members.aol.com/pooh0302/circle_body.htm |
You need to check with the rental company to see if you are allowed to take the RV off paved roads.

Check a book called The Milepost. it offers a mile by mile description of the highway, Fairbanks to the Arctic Circle. Very little of the highway is paved.

MOST LIKELY- NO RV rental company will allow the drive. It will via the HAUL Road. IF the company does allow you to drive this- BE CERTAIN to buy all the extra insurance and understand fully - THERE ARE NO SERVICES for most of the trip and NO cell phone service most of the way either.
