Ruby Foo's - Theater District -NYC
Has anyone eaten at Ruby Foo's in the Theater District? Pro's and Con's welcomed. Is there a particular place to sit that would make the meal more enjoyable? Thanks.

It's a very popular spot. The food is generally good, though there are some dishes that miss. Sushi is a good way to go. And they have some excellent desserts.
|
Never been but it's always crowded.

I've been there many times. It's fun, lively and quite pretty. Most seats are quite good. Do make a reservation. The waiter will guide you through the menu. Appetizers like the ribs and dumplings are particularly good. For main courses, most fish, seafood, steak and noodle dishes are delicious. Skip the duck, which is uninspired. Enjoy yourself.

Order the desert sampler plate. One of the most asthestically fun desert I've ever been served.

I work across the street from Ruby Foos and have only been there a couple of times and I mean no disrespect to the above opinions, but found the food overpriced and uninspired. Perhaps I caught the cook on an off day. On th other hand, the service is good, the decor is interesting and business is booming.

I guess there must be something wrong with me.

I don't there's anything wrong with you, x. I don't really get Ruby Foo's either. The decor is great and their business is booming, but I just didn't think the food (other than sushi) was that good, and, there are plenty of great sushi restaurants to go to.

One other annoyance is that, because of the "family-style" portions, it has become a favorite for large birthday parties, bachelorette parties, etc.

To each his own, I guess.

I live in NYC and have been to the UWS Ruby Foo's many times and the Times Square location a few times pre-theater -- every visit the food has been great, as has been the service and atmosphere. I especially enjoyed the duck. It's not cheap, but in my opinion you do get what you pay for.

I like Ruby Foo's and I am a fussy eater. The food isnt amazing but the atmosphere is great and for NYC I think the prices are pretty reasonable. You should defintely try it

It's fine for what, and where, it is. The food is fine and is helped by the location for pre-theater. However, I don't think I'd go out of my way just to go there. There are plenty of better Asian places in other parts of town. (Tao for instance has better food and a significantly nicer decor. Of course, you are paying up for this.)

Again, if you are in that neigborhood, you could do worse.
