Roy's in New York
 

What are your opinions of Roy's (Roy Yamaguchi's) in New York? We just enjoyed a fabulous meal at the Roy's in San Francisco. We'll be in New York next month and with all the great restaurants in NY to choose from, we're debating whether or not to try Roy's. I haven't read too many reviews of this restaurant and would like to know your opinions.

I do like Roy's New York. I have taken guest their from NY who say it surpasses many French restaurants they have tried largely because it goes beyond the meat and more meat option. Roy's is creative and yes good. I don't feel that it has the same quality as when it opened 2-3 years ago. Not sure that I have formed this opinion because I go so darn much. It is down town so I think a lot of people miss Roy's. I meant a NYC Diner on my trip (Oahu) who loves Roy's who was not even aware they had a location in Manhattan. <BR> <BR>But Joe I am not sure how often you are in NYC. What a shame it would be for you not to try some of our other gems. Fine dining is one of the things we do best here. Patria's near 21 and park blends Latin and European cuisine. Balthazar's has a great French ambience but not inventive in the way fusion cooking is. I would pick up a Zagat NY and play. Soon enough the end of this bull market will cause the closing of many restaurants and you just won't have the selection. I would also go online if you are truly obsessed with fine dining the way I am and look at menu’s. You can do this at a few sites I would do a search on “dinner Menu online”. I seem to remember cuisine.net and others coming up this way. Also many better restaurants have a website. The former President use to frequent Daniel's. There are just so many choices here! Remember we are famed for our European cuisine. You folks out west have a better grip on Asian infused foods. We have Nobu for Japanese but not the selection here for Asian that Hawaii and I think SF has. <BR>

Never been to the Roy's in NYC but the ones in the west coast are really great. Heard that the one in NYC doesn't really measure up.

just wanted you to know that xxx in second entry is different than first entry. I wrote the first entry. I lived on Oahu and did not see a quality differenct between Roy's Hawaii Kai and Roy's NYC.

I have dined at Roy's NY about four times. It has been consistently very good satisfying every member of my party. I am disappointed to hear Roy's has paired with the Outback Steak House in a new venture to open many more restaurants. As far as the other gems in NY, I have dined at many of Zagat's top food list. Interestingly enough, Roy's and another not so highly ranked restaurant, Molyvos, have been the only ones that were as good the second, third and fourth times as the first.

Wasn't Roy's located in the Marriott near the World Trade Center? Does that mean the restaurant is no longer?

Roy's was across the street from the WTC and I'm pretty sure it's either gone or sustained heavy damage. Can't get in there to look.

Roy's is in the Marriott Financial Center Hotel, two blocks south of the WTC. The Marriott website says the hotel suffered significant damage and am assuming that it has not been able to reopen yet.
