Royal Sonesta or Moneleone

Looking for some opinions on these two hotels in New Orleans. Considering one of the two for anniversary trip would like to hear pros and cons of each one. The reviews of the Monteleone are better on tripadvisor but you Fodors folks always have such colorful opinions.

I've only stayed at Royal Sonesta but dh and I love it. The location can't be beat, but you don't hear any of the hubub on the the street once you step inside. It's like an oasis amid mayhem. The bar to the right of the front door (can't remember the name) is very nice as is the courtyard. We enjoyed the rooftop pool when we were there last time as well. We're planning on staying there again in July assuming we can get a decent rate.

Snowrooster we are also considering July. I would love to hear if you get a good rate.

Have stayed at the Monteleone. Absolutely the most comfortable bed I have slept on. We had no noise problem. The room was not large, but certainly enjoyable. Would love to stay there again and recommend it without hesitation.

I booked it Sunday night for an average rate of $144/night (Wed - Sun). I got the rate directly from the hotel website for a "king deluxe" room. This is better than what expedia was offering at an avg of $165/night plus I just held the room w/my credit card (versus it being charged immediately like many online sites).

My husband and I spent a Thurs. Fri, & Sat. at the Royal Sonesta in January.

The location can't be beat for all the sights in the French Quarter.
Our room overlooked Bourbon Street and it had a balcony that was great for people watching.
The room was a nice size, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was very clean and it had plenty of towels and hot water
The noise from the merry makers on the street and from the bar that is catty cornered from the hotel went non -stop from about 8 PM until 3 AM each night we were there. We definitely were aware of the noise when we were in our room, even with the balcony doors shut.
At one point on the Saturday night, err make that early Sunday morning, I could swear there was a marching band in the room with us.
After the crowds left, the garbage trucks took over the noise making duties .

A room on the courtyard side of the hotel would have been a better choice for us. :-D
