Royal Lahaina Resort
This is our first trip to Maui. We are going to stay at the Royal Lahaina Resort in Kaanapali. Has anyone stayed there. We can't find much information on this hotel. We saw it in a travel book, thoughtt it looked nice but now we are having second thoughts.

Stayed there a few years back. The lobby was not that impressive, compared to others, so my initial impression was not that wonderful. But shortly after, during check-in, we were upgraded to an ocean front, high floor. The view was wonderful, so I really couldn't complain.
Unless you getting an incredible deal on your room rate, there are other more attractive & newer accomodations. I prefer the Wailea side of the island.

I stayed at the Royal Lahina two years ago and enjoyed it. The room and the people at the hotel were very nice. There are better beaches, but it was nice stepping out your backdoor and heading to an uncrowded beach. We signed up for their combo tour of snorkeling Mokokini & Kalaeloa from 6-12:30 then a Luau at the hotel at 5 pm - it was incredible!!!

Enjoy yourself :)

Condle,

You can do much better than the Royal Lahaina - used to be a good place to stay maybe in the 80's but definitely needs some attention now. If you don't want to spend a bundle, like at a Hyatt or Sheraton, stay at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel or the Aston Kaanapali Shores condos. I would switch to a different resort! You've got a great many to choose from in Kaanapali area!

Hi, I stayed at the Royal Lahaina hotel four years ago on my honeymoon. Not to discourage you, but one morning I woke up and my legs were covered with bites from fire ants. I informed the management and we were upgraded to a two bedroom suite, but I was truly uncomfortable for the remainder of my honeymoon, the itching was unbearable. I'm not saying that this is a problem for only the Royal Lahaina (fire ants are all over the islands), but it makes me think that this particular hotel is not up to par with maintenance. I agree with the other posts, you can do better.
