Rover ticker?
I'm organising a business trip to the States for my wife who will have a crazy schedule of having to visit Hawaii, Oregon, Virginia and perhaps one other place.

Is there an airline which does a rover ticket which will cover her for so many flights and give her some flexibility or will I have to pre-book each flight specifically?

She will be there during early May.

Andy

Andy,

That's an interesting question. I'm from the U.S. and have unfortunately never heard about any kind of airline pass (at least with a major airline who will service all of those areas) which would give her the flexibility she needs. Unfortunately, it appears (and i'm sure most would agree with me) that the airlines in the U.S. have really pushed the notion of adequate customer service, reliable travel and flexibility for the consumer completely out of their thoughts.

I'm not sure if you'd be willing to do this, but you might consider having a travel agent book for you. It might cost a little bit extra in handling fees (mine here charges $15 USD) but they do all the leg work for you and are familiar with the intricacies of the system. I usually just book online using Expedia.com or Travelocity or go directly with an airline's website since I don't do a lot of multiple legs. But, I would suggest booking now to avoid restricted schedules and high costs. Sorry I couldn't be of any help. Anyone out there have better info for Andy?

thanks xxxx!

I may have to go through an agent but I was hoping to put it together myself using this technology.

Is America(n) West a good airline as someone other than on here has suggested trying them?

thanks again xxxx or can I call you xx?

I had never heard of airline rover tickets for the US until I went to Europe and met other people who used them. Perhaps you could try the boards for Europe or Australia and see if anyone there knows anything about it.

Hey Andy,

Actually, you can just call me Jennifer! With respect to your question, sorry to say, i've never flown America West, so I can't give you any opinions on them. I can tell you that I haven't heard of any major complaints about them, they are a smaller airline with more limited service than the big ones. You might want to consider Southwest as well, although I know they don't fly to Hawaii, but they might do Oregon and Virginia. I've had pretty decent experiences on them. I don't fly United because they never seem to be the cheapest; my brother used to fly Continental between the west and east coasts quite a few years ago and would get his luggage lost on every trip out (not kidding), but perhaps they've improved since then. I usually fly American and don't have too much trouble except for them leaving my luggage out in a rainstorm during a layover once. There's also Alaska, Delta, Hawaiian (i'm sure i'm forgetting lots more). Don't mean to turn you off U.S. travel so i'll stop now! :) It's really not all that bad most of the time, especially since she'll be flying late spring when the weather won't be such a factor. So, good luck and hope your wife at least gets a chance to see the outside of the hotel/office building while she's out here, and have some fun (or at least some good meals)!
P.S. If i've offended anyone by criticizing their favorite airline, sorry! :)

Hi Jennifer (this is getting cozy isn't it?)

Thanks for your detailed response. I've been into American Airlines web site and they have a multi-city search option and they seem to cover most of the destinations with their partner/subsidiary airline, American Eagle.

I may bale (bail)? out and hand it over to a travel agent but at the moment I'm interested in arranging it myself as a sort of initiative test.

Its a distraction from the rain and the wretched foot & mouth disease.

thanks again
