Route suggestion Albuquerque-Monument Valley-Santa Fe
Hello! I'm looking for a route suggestion from Albuquerque to Monument Valley in a one-day drive, seeing a few things along the way. Then,
from Monument Valley we're headed to Santa Fe with a day or two to see things before arriving in Santa Fe. The BIG issue is that I have a severe fear of heights and I'm looking for roads/hwys that aren't so scary or have steep drop-offs. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you! |
You won't encounter any scary roads with drop offs whatever route you take. From ABQ you could take 40 through Gallup then head to Chinle and see Canyon de Chelly on the way to Monument Valley but be aware that it would be a long day. A good route from Monument Valley to Santa Fe would go through Bluff to Cortez stopping just past Cortez to see Mesa Verde, then head east to see Durango, then go south on 550 to the turn off to Santa Fe. Travel from Santa Fe to ABQ via the Turquoise Trail. Be aware that you do not want to be driving at night, most of your driving is over open range ( think cattle, horses and sheep on the road) and wildlife country. |
Thanks!
This is very helpful—thanks so much. We’re hitting the road, now per your suggestions! |
I always look for native jewelry in gallup
