Has anyone driven multiple routes?

Though I haven't driven that route into Nevada, 395 is a beautiful drive along the eastern edge of the Sierras and I wouldn't head off into the desert any sooner than you must to get to Furnace Creek. I see no advantage. If there is one I'm sure someone will mention it. But I'm biased, 395 is my favorite drive in the western US, bar none. Mt. Whitney, the highest point in the lower 48 above you and the desert stretching away to the east with the lowest point in North America, just 85 miles apart. All to suggest you stay on 395 until Lone Pine.

I'd absolutely do 395 . . . Unless you just have to see Rhyolite. But if you are headed to Vegas afterwards you can see it then.
In this case the fastest route (395) is also the prettiest route.

Per the preceding replies, take 190 thru the Valley. This the Death Valley Scenic Byway. See:

On the way from Mammoth to Bishop, "The Res" usually has the cheapest gas.
Google Maps "Paiute Palace Gas Station".
Also recommend the McDonald's in Lone Pine for a pit stop and a view of Mt. Whitney from the west facing windows or parking lot!

I have friends in Bishop and when I visit we go for lunch to the very popular Schat's Bakery, maybe 2 miles southbound from the Paiute gas station, in Bishop on Main/395. It's a fun place if you're near there for lunch or dinner. erickschatsbakery.com

At Schats I check the free samples and the Day Old Bakery. I don't think I've ever had a sandwich there, just coffee. There is a new place "Great Basin Bakery" that my friend who live there likes.
In Bishop the other famous place to stop is Mahogany Meats for jerky https://smokedmeats.com/
For eating out we like the Mexican place Astorga's on 395 near "The Res" and also Yamatani (dinner only)
Yamatani Restaurant | Bishop's original sushi restaurant.
