Route from Denver to SteamboatSprings

We are traveling from Denver to Steamboat Springs on October 20-26. What is the best route?

You only have two choices -- and both are about the same time wise. Personally I would take US 40 the whole distance. Nice drive pass Winter Park, Granby, etc. The other route is I-70 to Frisco, CO hwy 9 to US 40. I think it is slightly blander run but it works equally well.

PS -- Watch the weather. If a a forecast for snow, then I would take I-70 and 9.

You could also go north to Fort Collins and take 14 west through Poudre Canyon. That's a beautiful drive. It's at least 4.5 hours though, and if there's snow in the forecast it's not the best route.

Thank you so much! I will keep watch on the weather reports.

I also recommend you take I-70 West to US40.

A VERY scenic route and maybe not possible but I'll offer it. IF IF Trail Ridge Road is open, drive up to RMNP, drive through the park and down to Granby and get Route 40 to Steamboat.

Trail Ridge is still open. Haven't had any serious snow in the past ten days with only a little on the high mountains. TR road would be very scenic but add maybe three to four hours to the drive to Steamboat. Good suggestion IF you have the time.

Oh, yes, it would take a day to get there but the scenery would be unbelievable.
