Personally - I'd book at Yosemite View and cancel when I got a cancellation at Yosemite Lodge.

(This assumes you want to spend most of your time in Yosemite Valley.)

Are you staying more than one night?

I would be tempted to stay one night at Wawonna and then the remainder of your time at the Lodge.

Re the posts on your other thread about frequent cancellations - that really is the case.

spirobulldog - just in case it isn't clear, she's talking about Yosemite View Lodge, not Yosemite Lodge.

But that is a good question-how many nights?

If 3 or more nights I'd book one at Wawona and two at Yosemite View . . . and cancel Yosemite View when I got in to Yosemite Lodge.

But isn't Yosemite Lodge going to be way over budget? 250 is going to be the max and thats what Yosemite View is...and were staying 4 nights which brings up another point.....3 days in the park...will we be able to see a decent amount of the park???

"will we be able to see a decent amount of the park???"

yes -for sure.

"250 is going to be the max and thats what Yosemite View is."

Please clarify . . . Is this trip ONLY to Yosemite? Or are you also traveling to some other parts of the state?

There's nothing like staying IN the Valley, but the Wawona's location is great for seeing Mariposa Grove, for driving up to Glacier Point and it is very quiet and peaceful for the most part.

Great - Then my suggestion is to look to economize on other nights either enroute from YNP to AZ or in Phoenix. If you can get places for under budget in those places then your average cost will come in under budget.

This is in summer - right? Are you driving via Las Vegas? If so - weeknight rooms on the strip will run under $50

2nights @ $50 in vegas, 4 nights @ $250 in Yosemite = $183 over the 6 nights. Who cares if one night is $50 and another is $250if they are both where you want to stay?

That is an over-simplified example, but you get the idea

We were there in 2009 the third week of May. We spent 2 nights in Wawona and 1 night in Curry Village regular cabin. I would have rather had it 1 night in Wawona and 2 nights in Curry. The drive back and forth is out of the way, but I would pick it over Yosemite View. I still think you will find something in the Valley as the result of a cancellation.
Wawona is a very old place with lot of historic value. It is rustic, so you need to know what your getting yourself into.

Thank you....no, we are driving through California to Phoenix. Las Vegas sounds great but we don't have the time. I guess I was leaning towards the Yosemite View Lodge. They have the distances to the valley and other things in the park and it didn't seem to far...is this true? Also If we stay at the Wawona are we also farther from the valley? I will keep trying for the real Yosemite Lodge but it seems like the distance problem is about the same with the other 2 hotels(wawona or yosemite view) True???

Also forgot to mention we need 2 rooms so this might make getting a cancellation harder but I'll keep trying.....Spiro...why would you pick Wawona over Yosemite View????

"but I would pick it over Yosemite View."

IMO just the opposite - One night Wawona and three nights Yosemite View would be good. It takes less time to drive into the Valley from Yosemite View than from Wawona.

But neither is ideal . . .

I haven't stayed at Yosemite View. I would book all three nights for Wawona or one night at Wawona and two nights at View.

Then keep trying for The Lodge or even the regular cabins in Curry. I would be suprised if you don't find something that you want there. I like the tent cabins just fine, but I can certainly see why some people wouldn't. The regular cabins are pretty much like a typical hotel and they have private baths, the tent cabins do not have private bath.\

You are looking at a Sun, Mon, and Tues so that would be in your favor, I would guess

If you drive from View you can probably bet on 20-40 minutes.

From Wawona, you are looking at 45-70 minutes. But, Glacier Point is halfway in between and you are surely going there sometime during your trip. Mariposa Grove is right by Wawona and you are surely going there too. The Valley is certainly the best place, but you wouldn't want to miss the other two either.

Going early in the morning will drastically cut down on the traffic. You will be stuck a bit in traffic in the valley between 10:00am and 7:00pm. Again, the weekdays you are there are in your favor though.

One more thing. You are going to save 100 a night at Wawona. So, just depends if you want to waste about an hour a day driving. Although, I think you are likely going to be going towards Wawana one or two or your days anyway.

As I recall, if you take the YART into the park, there is a special lane for the bus- therefore no getting in line behind a row of cars at the gate waiting to pay.
